.....Like tonum24 said, keep the old head and get it repaired. You never know if you may need it or someone else may.

we are gonna keep the old head, and I talked with the service guys, even if I took the head elsewhere, they would not put the repaired head on. I just want to get the new head, and be done with it, rather than trying to find a machine shop. Time is of the essence, and a new head will be here tommorrow. Let me remind you that I am 800 miles from home, in a small town. I don't really have many options.
Well, I got the truck back today. They ended up replacing the head, the coil, and the plug. The truck feels great. It isn't feeling really slow like I was saying in a previous post. Bill Summers Ford is great. They really took good care of us. They took 200 dollars off the end price, so it ended up being 2500 dollars. I am gonna be heading for home tomorrow at 3am, so lets hope that all goes well. I will put the pictures up on a website as soon as I get home, and have access to my webserver.
Well, I made it home this afternoon. We left at 3am, and made it in about 1:15. Not bad for a 670 mile trip, towing a trailer. I promise to get those pictures up soon.
I just posted about a similar problem I had on Monday. Oddly enough, I was out of state when it happened to me. I had to rent a car to get home, but I was only 200 miles away.
On Saturday, I noticed the truck was running sluggish, and I noticed the smell of gas inside the truck. My Uncle, who owns a tire shop, said it sounded like a clogged fuel filter, so he changed it for me. Did you notice a gas smell in your truck before this happened?
Thank God it didn't happen to us when we were pulling our popup. We had gone to Dale Hollow over the 4th and were hauling the camper, the kids bikes and all our crap. I would have been one hot momma if it had happened then!
The truck was running sluggish, but I didn't get the smell of fuel. What I think happened is that the spark plug was working its way loose enough to loose compression, and in the altitude of Colorado, it made it worse, so that would explain the power loss, and then getting on the freeway, the plug finally ejected.
I wish it would have been a little closer to home, since we were 670 miles from home, and had to wait for the repair to finish. The service manager was able to take 200 dolalrs off, so the total came to 2519.72. Not too bad
Sounds like everything worked out good (except for the bill OUCH!). Glad to hear you got home safe without any more incidents. You truly are at the mercy of your situation. I've been there several times. BTW, did you end up keeping your old head?
