Cookie is right, there'd be no problem in swapping pcm's from one truck to another. I'd also add that the program of the new pcm would have to match the tranny type of the truck it's going into. For example, if you're putting a pcm from a truck with a 5spd into a truck with an auto, I'm not sure the tranny would shift correctly.
My question: why do you need to do this? Is there something wrong with the pcm in your truck, or do you merely want to operate on a different box code? If that's the reason, you can achieve the same result by merely installing a chip with the code you want.
Quadzilla, I am glad you mentioned about the transmission. Hadn't thought of that. The reason I was asking is I have a friend with a 96. It does not have the power I think it should. When he mashes the accelerator sitting still it will run up to about 2500 and start missing and it will go on up to about 3400 after a few seconds. If he gets into it a little slower it does better, not quite as bad. I put a 10k resistor in it yesterday and it helped it out a lot. The miss was almost gone and it did run better but still doesn't seem right. I just got to wondering about swapping my dad's 97 with it but the trans kills that. His is auto and the other one is manual. I doubt it is the code in the PCM. I did load my SCMT in it one time and it helped it but still didn't seem right. We are going to check a few things when we get time. I want to check the fuel pressure when I get the fittings to hook the guage up.
Thanks for the replies! If you know of anything I might check let me know.
