Approx Gas Mileage

I recently resolved my distributer issues with the help of some very helpful Forum members...thank you!!!
I recently purchased this vehicle, I have never filled her up and My company I work for just asked me if I would accept a transfer from Washington to Florida
Here is the setup.... 78 Ford F-150 Auto, rebuilt 400 approx 10 k on it, emissions removed, 4barrel Carter, C-6 trans, 325 rearend.
Since I havent filled her up I have not been able to figure milage with this motor and setup. Anyone with a similar setup have any idea on gas mileage? Im looking at about a 3300 mile trip and need to figure out the damage this is going to do to my wallet
I think I will take the A/C belt off (i was told I might save a little)
If any of you guys have made a long trip like this with your truck and have any advice for me on prepping this motor or any other general advice I am all ears.

Thanks
Kevin

It is hard to estimate gas mileage, especially when we don't have all the details on the engine. Things like cam timing and compression ratio and also carb size all have some effect. I get about 8 MPG, but I have a long duration cam, and a 750 CFM carb, a high stall converter, also 10.35:1 CR.

With a 600 CFM carb and 9:0:1 CR and a shorter duration cam 12 MPG or better on the highway is possible.

I wish I could have got more details on this truck, I was not very diligent in getting the details of the rebuild from the old owner. This is my first "older" vehicle and my inexperience got the best of me I do know that the old man I bought it from was going to pull a travel trailer with it until his wife convinced him to buy a 2004 rig. Im putting a new edelbrock performer 400 intake manifold on as soon as it gets delivered in hopes of fine tuning this engine after taking off all the emissions.
At 8 miles per gallon I roughly figured about $795.00 for this trip Hopefully I will be able to squeez a few more mile per gallon out of this truck!

Use an Edelbrock #1406 carb. The primary venturis are smaller and should be more efficient on this 600 CFM carb.
If the motor was built for pulling a trailer, it should have a short duration cam. The cam should be set to 'straight up' timing instead of the 4 degree retarded cofiguration of a stock motor. This will improve the low end torque and help the fuel mileage.

Making sure your tire pressures are up on the high side will help a lot too.
I would expect with what I've read about your truck, You should get around 12 mpg or better if you stay out of the throttle and obey the posted speed limits.
You should be mildly cammed like mine, but my 9.25 CR. might be higher.
I got about 12.5 mpg's with my 78'Bronco running 38" TSL/SX's & 4.11's..
Yes I did the proper odometer correction on the interstate as well.

Good Luck...
