Hello all,
This is probably a timeless classic, but I'm still learning these trucks. How do you reinstall the kingpin after replacing the bushings, bearing, etc..? The bushings that were in it were plastic????? The replacement bushings (from NAPA) are brass (I think). It just doesn't want to go back together. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
you'll probably have to take your kingpins and bushings to a local machine shop to get the bushings honed. They'll mike up your pins and hone the bushing to fit. Doesn't take too long and shouldn't break the bank either. $20.00 to $ 30.00 ought to cover it. Remember to line up you lube passage in the bushing with the zirck when re assembling them, that bushing can be a bear to turn if you get it wrong. Good luck
I'm not sure I understand what you mean Don. The zerks come down on top of the kingping with the hole right in the middle. There is no alignment to be done as far as I can tell.
What he's saying is, the bushings have an internal diameter that is smaller than the outside diameter of the kingpins. you will have to ream the bushings after they are installed to fit your pins exactly. Almost any machine shop can do tis for a small fee.
They should fit good and snug and be a bit hard to rotate by hand when done properly.
I always get kingpins with the nylon bushings.
Fast and easy job replacing them if you always keep 'em greased.
So far, that's the only thing that I've found that isn't interchangable
between a 65 and a 66.
