Dependable HP and Torque Needed

Hi all,

I have a 2001 F350 CC Lariat 7.3 (44K miles, no mods). I run a construction company, so I use it sometimes to haul and tow. However, most of the time my employees are using my other trucks to do those jobs. Much of my driving is running around from worksite to lumberyard to office etc.

So I want to boost the power of my truck without affecting reliability. Also, I don't need to break the bank trying to squeeze every drop of power out of the engine (I have an A6 2.7 twin turbo for that function ).

From my preliminary reading of the site, it seems that a Diablo or SuperChip tuner is the way to go. I do not want to get into replacing the exhaust or anything like that. I could replace the airbox if that would help.

My guess is that is should add a pyrometer. Is this something I can do myself? I have medicore mechanic skills (I am a carpenter by trade).

Thanks for any help.

Jeff

Leave the truck stock and save your money for that fine Audi. One of the most understated cars in the world. I own an '86 5000 turbo that will hit 140 if I ask it to. I can only drool at the possiblities of a 2.7 twin turbo.

First things first. If any power adder is being contemplated then the pyrometer is the first thing you should add, especially if you are planning on leaving everything else stock.

Yes, you can do it yourself, for ease of installation I recommend a clamp on thermocouple installed before the turbo.

Either of the tuners you mentioned will be fine, but since your intenton seems to be for just a little more umph and no other mods you may want to consider a single program chip. Contact the webmaster of this site for more information, but he should be able to set you up with the chip for roughly half of what the tuner costs. I would not recommend any program over 60 horsepower without the neccessary exhaust mods.
