Crash, Ouch
Hey All,Had an accident with my everyday antique this week
I've had that truck 18 years. It hurts to look at her.
Of course this happens when its ready for fit ,finish and paint(suede black)
with the side moulding.
I guess I don't really have a question, I am just looking for assurance that
it can be fixed. The questions will come once I know what the insurance company is going to do. Will probably need a driverside fender, grille, lower valance and a bumper. What a mess. And who knows what I find when they take it apart. The radiator support is in rough shape, both sides rotted and smashed by accident over the years.
Thanks in advance for your help

If your state has special laws about restoring "totaled" vehicles, you may have other problems getting it back on the road as well.
Is it fixable? Yes, given enough time and money.
Is it worth it to the insurance company?
Probably not.
Good luck and I'll keep my fingers crossed for you.
But John is right, they will try to get off the cheapest way possible.
If they total it, your going to have trouble retitleing the truck as a salvage vehicle. this is pretty common everywhere.
If it were me, I would locate all of the replacement items, generate a report, get the estimates, compile the aforementioned info, and take it to small claims court after the insurance settles. You never know what might happen.
Thanks for the heads up on insurance companies
and what to expect.I expected to hear that they would value my slick66 at hundreds rather than the thousands I have into it.
I'll probably locate parts online and I may have a few of my own to barter.
I'm going to stay positive about this situation.
Not going to allow a total, because it was close to straight and ready for paint. If I have to fix it myself I will and it won't be the first time in 18 years. If my family had their way it would have been crushed and made into the toymotors and hondas that I detest
.

I'm starting to feel better about the process.
Thanks for feeling my pain.
Oh yeah I failed to mention previously that it was a commercial work van that lost its brakes and hit me. So any settlement will come from their insurance. My insurance is the go between.

Glad you stepped in to help him.
Were my comments accurate at all?
There's too much to it, and too many variables to get into here. That's why I prefer to handle his 'case' on a personal basis.
They will likely 'total' the truck but it depends on the state as far as what is done with the title. Here in PA, which is usually a PITA state with everything, it isn't a big deal to swap the title around. Totalling means it just costs more to fix than what the resale value of the truck is...doesn't mean he can't just keep it and fix it himself.
We'll let you know what happens.
I was T boned in my 65 several yrs ago....bed,cab and door died....never heard squat from my insurance about totalling it....all has been fixed, just need to get the cab in paint and all the rest....Is the insurance company a major one or not.....
Hang Tough and fight like heck to avoid a total

I'm so lucky to have found this site and you guys who appreciate our slick trucks!
ddavidv I'll email soon.
Camper I'm in Masssachusetts. My insurance is Plymouth Rock and theirs is Employers Mutual Casualty. The van is a work van for a franchise company that cleans up after fires and floods. Heavy van knocked my truck backward.
The guy wasn't looking where he was driving, maybe had faulty brakes.
