broken gmc!!!!!

sorry for asking about my gmc in this forum but i can not seem to get help elsewhere. my passenger side mirror on my 99 gmc sierra (new body style) is broke at the pivot. i got a new base for it (without the mirrored glass) does any one know how to remove the mirrored glass from one mirror so I can install it in the other? another problem is the drivers seat.the frame in the back has either broken or come unbolted and it sags towards the center console. anyone know how to pull the upholstery and headrest to check out the frame? thanks for the help.

If it's like my Jimmy, then probably just replace the glass.

It was less than $5 at autozone with adhesive.

Had the backrest on my Bronco break a few years ago. We just unzipped the upholstry, pulled the pads away from the frame and welded it back together. Getting the cover back on the seat was pretty tough, though.

I would try getting a replacement piece of glass from an auto parts retailer first. They are relatively cheap, and more than likely the existing piece of glass is going to get broken if you try to remove it from the existing housing.

As far as the upholstery, I'm not familiar with newer vehicles, but it is probably hog ringed in place. You will have to cut the hog rings to remove the upholstery. If you are really lucky, it may just be a slip on arrangement held on with plastic clips to the frame.

Does this mirror have a ball mounted on the back which goes into a socket on the mirror housing? If so, I believe they pop in & out along with the two other smaller ball & sockets that control the tilts. See if it's something like that.

I think the upolsteryjust slips over and clips on. my dad has a 99 Gmc and the lumbar support broke. I remember him slipping the seat cover off somehow..... I'll ask him when he gets home

They use a long plastic clip to hold the fabric on, easy as can be to get off, it locks on, pull it tight then release the clip, and come right off.

Heat the pieces of the old mirror with a hair dryer and peel it off. If you have one you can use a heat gun just be careful of the plastic around the mirror. The new mirror should be self stick. If the old mirrors adhesive is dirty you'll have to clean it off, other wise just stick it over the old adhesive. The seat shoul be covered under a secret warranty, if they give you any gruff tell them you're going to contact the National Transportation Safety Board about your seat. A 3/4 ton GM PU at work has a bent frame, found out it scuffed its second set of tires off at 20K, the third set is gone at 31K. So I sent it over to our brake and alignment guy, and he gave me the bad news, and said the truck hasn't been abused. PS I wasn't around for the first three sets of tires.
