i saw that thread about the sale tyres was having on ground hawgs.i like how the ground hawg looks but have had a bad experience with them.i had a set of 40 by 17 hawgs, and they rode ridiculously bad(would bounce so bad the truck came off the ground).they werent balanced, but will a ground hawg balance out?i know they get exceptional tread life(why i am interested in them-38.5-15 for 155).anybody have any experience with these tires??good or bad
LOL your scarrying me! I just ordered 40" ground hawgs from Tyres. I'll let you know how they ride in awhile. still need to order the rims, get them mounted and balanced and lift my truck so don't know how long thats gonna be but I will update you.
Three of the 44 inch Hawgs I have are fairly round and balanced out ok....with 2 lbs. (each!!!) of weight on the inside of the wheels. One of them is out of round and is wearing pretty bad, but when it's dead, I'll buy one brand new one and then they'll all look new again.
Two 16 oz. weights on the inside bead on two tires, one 16 oz. and one 5 oz. on one other and one 16 oz. and one 3.5 oz. on the other. They ride really well at 70 MPH, but you do feel the out-of-roundness when driving in town (25-35 MPH). They're definitely NOT a bad tire by any means, but there are good ones and there are not-so-good ones. It's like any set of large mud tire one buys: you'll get 3 good ones and one that wears out in 10 minutes. Don't know why, but all of my friends who use huge tires notice the same thing. Oh well. The only thing that REALLY gets my goat is the size difference from advertised. Oh, and I'm thinking of putting about 2 oz. of BBs in each tire too...not for bad balance, just to "fine tune" the balance, if you 're pickin' up what I'm puttin' down. I did run straight 'EQUAL' in them for a while, but found out that stop-and-go driving drove me nuts since the powder would "pool up" in the bottom of the tire when stopped and once moving, they'd act like an out of balance washing machine until a decent speed was reached.

yeah the size difference sucks for sure! but I don't mind really because I don't wanna lift my truck all that much. a 40" i'm hearing is really a 38". did you have the tires balanced at a shop or did you just do it by trial and error? how bad is it at the 25-35 mph speed? is it almost death wobble like?
You replied before I finished my edit........
I had my tires balanced at the local Tire-Rama (I ordered through them). They burned up their machine too...HA HA
The tires don't 'wobble' at 25-35, they just kind of hop...it's like a very annoying up and down bounce that hurts the wife's chest
LOL cool thanks for the info on the Ground hawgs can't wait to get them on my truck. Thanks for the Compliment on the Avatar. My favorite band and I get to see them on July 31st for Ozzfest. Can't wait, Judas Priest, Black Sabbath and Slayer! doesn't get much better then that.
I always wanted to live in Montana though. I love the outdoors, hunting and fishing. I'm beginning to hate Los Angeles, to crowded and way to expensive to live here. Yeah its to bad they don't have the music scene like you get in Los Angeles though.
