Idle time is definitely a bad thing when you own a PSD!
I have seen a few pictures (can't find them anymore) of people swapping out the plastic wire covers for colored wire covers. I am referring to the black plastic tubing that protects the wires around the engine. Now I assume I could go down to Home Depot or Lowe's and buy some different colored tubing, but I had a question.
Do any of you know of anyone that makes kits for this type of thing? Is there any other tubing that may be made out of a different material that might also be superior to the plastic? Any suggestions?
Actually, have any of you done this to your PSD's?
No haven't done it, sounds cool though. I think the only main concerns would be the temperature rating of the wire loom, there is some very cheap stuff, and you get what you paid for there.
The stuff you're talking about is wire loom and there are about a thousand styles of it. If you know where to look you can find some nice stuff. Check with your local heavy equipment parts house. They have some good stuff. Check with an aircraft repair facility and check out the stuff that's used on turbine engines. JC Whitney has some of this stuff, Summit and Jegs probably have it. Electrical Supply stores carry it. The guys at the custom radio shop can probably get it for you.
BE EXTREMELY CAREFUL!- This product can be misused and create a really cheesy look. On the other hand though, a well detailed wiring harness can really make it look nice.
Seriously though there is part of your wiring harness that is black with a red stripe around it. This is a warning tape because there is very high voltage wire in that harness. I would make sure it was marked differently from the rest. Good luck with it.
If you use that stuff, make sure it is secured against vibration. It WILL eat through things. View this thread to see what I am talking about. Pictures of the damage to my intercooler air tubes are in my gallery....

Yea - I put some under the hood on my truck - check out my gallery for a pic. Maybe I'm the cheesy one that Bodabdan was talking about - but I like how it looks - just a little something else to make it different. I got the red loom from Summit racing - but JC Whitney has exactly the same stuff too.
I just looked at your gallery and I saw no cheese. I was referring more to the imitation chrome wire loom that is in an oil soaked engine compartment. These are usually the ones that have had none of the wire-ties trimmed off. The cheesy type can invest heavily in the wire loom yet disregard the slop in the ball joints, the oil leaks, and things like that. You can usually find the imitation braided radiator hose in the same vehicle, also untrimmed.
