Help Clutch problem
I am having problems with a 92 Ford Explorer EB 4x4. It was leaking something the other day, I thought it was from the AC but it dident dry up. Now it is red lining at 15MPH in first gear and smoking. It smells like clutch. It feels like it is in neutral and half way in gear. can anyone tell me what the ford was leaking or how to fix this problem. I dont want to put in a new clutch. Thank you for any help you can give

I assume from your post that you have a manual transmission and not an automatic. If so, it could be that oil from either the engine or the transmission is somehow leaking on to the clutch disc and possibly causing it to slip. I would start by checking all the fluids under the hood (Coolant, power steering, engine oil) to see if any of these are low. If they all look OK, then it's time to check the manual for the transmission oil check procedure. It will involve crawling up under the vehicle and removing a plug to check the level, but that's the only way to see where it's coming from without some major surgery...
