I just recently bought an 86 F250 6.9 4x4 AT(3sp) that came equipped with a Gear Vendors unit on it. It has the manual switch on the floor. Just curious if anyone had any pos/neg experiences with one of these units or any advise.
I haven't had one, but would like to, just currently out of my price range. I've heard a lot of pr both ways, but I would still like to try for myself.
I had one in my 88 with the c-6 auto trans. I had to practice, but managed to use it just like a standard. As soon as you hit the on off switch, it would shift. Practice at it, you will really enjoy the way it works. You should also be able to set it to shift itself.

Have you checked your fuel-mileage yet? I have an 85 heavy 4WD, ext. cab. 8' bed, C-6 three speed auto trans. and 3:55 gears and best mileage is 11.2. I've been thinking of trying a Gear-vendors overdrive if I get good reports. I'm not sure my 6.9 would have enough power to use the overdrive in the hilly region I live in.
To be honest I haven't had a chance to drive it yet; it's back home in N. Calif. and I've got a few more weeks before I get out of the army and go back home. My dads been driving it around a little bit and says he's been getting 17. I'll be back home around the first week of Aug. and will then have a good idea of what can be expected mileage wise, how it works on hills, towing etc. and can let you know then if you're still curious.
I used to have an 84 F250 4x4 AT(C6) reg. cab LB 6.9 w/ a Banks and never got less than 15, avg. 16/17, if I recall right (and the majority of that was NOT highway driving). The Banks was truly awsome when compared to anything else (6.9 or 7.3's) that didn't have turbos. Wish I'd never sold it and wouldn't consider anything without a turbo.
