I have a 97 Maxima, the problem is, some times it stalls, will not take any gas, and blows white smoke, and smells like gas. First I disconnected the mass air, no difference. Thought if this was the problem, it would clear up. I disconnected the mass air when the car was acting fine and acting up. The only difference it made, was when the car was fine, when disconnected the rev limiter kicked in when given any gas. Took it to Autozone, codes, Mass air, and bank 2 O2 sensor, and miss fires... Now the car acts fine, so, I have disconnected both O2 sensors, and I will be driving the wifes car to work tomorrow, with a spare mass air sensor, disconnected O2s. When I had the codes ran, I disconnected the both Mass air and the O2s, would this cause codes?
I figure, if it is an O2, that may cause the code for the Mass air, trying to correct it self.
What do you guys think?
Thanks Stamepde
How much white smoke were you getting out of the exhaust? If the 02s and MAF sensor are disconnected they will throw codes and the computer probably won't run the engine right.
If you get a lot of white smoke out the exhaust, means you've got a blown headgasket.
Start by replacing the O2 sensor 1st. If you still pull MAF codes, then clean the two elements in the sensor with rubbing alcohol and a Q-tip, be very careful, they are really sensitive.
White smoke? either water or trans fluid...but i don't think you can burn trans fluid in newer cars....i would check the oil for water containmation and pull & inspect plugs ...a compression test might be in order..did it ever get hot on her? the plugs should tell the tale.......
in older cars , you use to have a vacum modulator on the tranmission,{to shift the trans} the vacum line ran to the engine manifold, when the module went bad, you would suck trans fuild into the engine and burn it...they now used electronic gizmo's for that now..
