Has anyone used one of these? They have been advertising in a local farm publication so I called them. It connects to the ICP sensor so it does not affect ther factory settings. There is a 60 day money back return if not satisfied. It does not over fuel the engine. In my '97 they said it is guaranteed to get 75 HP and 160# torque and 15% better fuel milage. No other modifications have to be done. For me this sounds better than some of the others out there just on the fact that when towing you need to set at a lower setting anyway. I do not have gauges yet and that is my next "To Do" item. By the way these are built somewhere in Texas. NO, NO, NO, I am not a dealer or salesman for these. I just need information before making up my mind.
I've had one in my 00 7.3 for about a month and I love it. The increase in performance was just what I wanted and with the air mods my mileage has jumped significantly. I used to get about 500/ tank and now it's well over 600. Just my .02 worth, but i'm happy I went that route.
Do you have gauges to check if temps, and boost changed. I figure if I go this route I will get gauges first so I can see if there is a differance. I don't like the idea myself of over fueling the engine which seems to be what most of the others do. I want empty/towing power without needing to downgrade when I really need the power.
Question for Fishtexas. I bought a used truck (2001 7.3psd) and was told it had a Dr Performance chip (gismo...whatever you call it) installed. I have looked all over for something extra and so has my ford man and nothing can be found but the codes indicate something is there. Where is your chip installed and what does it look like?
It plugs into the ICP port, which is on the driver's side near the fuel filter/water seperator. It's just a small black box maybe 3" X 4", with a cord from each end. It mounts inline with the ICP and is normally tucked up under the fuel filter cover w/ the Powerstroke label on it. Check out their website, predatorpower, and there's a short mpg showing the unit and the installation.
That sounds an awful lot like the 10K mod that a lot of guys on this thread have done. It costs about $5 to do yourself. Do a search for 10K mod and you will see what I mean.
Do a search for 10K mod or clamp. You will find a ton of info. I just went to radio shack last night to get the supplies I need for the clamp which is a variation of the 10K mod. I'll post when I get it on hopefully Friday.
