Question Help!!!!!

I just put a rebuilt 360 FE engine back into my truck. I set the timing by the book by placing the #1 cylinder at the top of its compression stroke and the timing mark on the harmonic balancer is on 0 tdc and the rotor is facing the #1 plug wire terminal. I cannot get it to start up. I am getting fuel and when I pulled the #1 plug and cranked it I had a large blue spark so I am getting spark. Can anyone help me here. I have been hanging over the front of this 4x4 so long in the california 104 degree heat and am about to call it quits.I just want to get her running because I need to sell her to afford my next project. Help please.

well the piston is at the top as far as it will go and it occassionally spits but not very often.

yeah, I have done that too in the past. But this time the plug wires are in the proper order.I have moved the distributor while cranking but it just coughs when advanced but will not fire. Is it possible the distribyutor itself is bad. I know that when it was in another vehicle it was hit hard on the top, hard enough to break the cap.I checked the pertronix unit it works and the cap rotor and coil all work as well. That is why I am stumped.

its a possibility that it might be goofed up. do you have another one on hand to try ? if its on compression stroke, balancer at 0, and the rotor pointing at #1 it should fire. i would try another dizzy, jmho, matt

You'll know if your on the Comp stroke if ya pull the plug in #1 hole and have someone else bump the starter over and it blows you finger off the plug hole....

that was one of my mistakes....
I stuck my finger in #1 and tirned it over by hand till I felt the compression pop my finger out, I had it Up but not on a compression stroke the first time.

live and learn!
