I have an '86 F-150 efi 302 that won't start even with starter fluid.I get fire,Fuel to the rail, and turn over.I have tried to fix it and fix it.It doesn't seem like the fuel injectors are firring and maybe more.I also need to know is there any way to bypass all the vaccum lines or at least some of them. Also it seems like it turns over pretty ruff.more problems to come.ARRRRGH!!!!!!!!

the vac lines run help controll the injection! dont try to bypass them! if it wont start with starting fluid, you either have no spark getting to the plugs, or not enough compression to fire.

have you tried a cap and rotor?
have you done a compression test?
how many miles are on the engine?
was it running alright, and just quit ?
how do the plugs look? are they wet or dry?
we need a little more info please.

Have you checked fuel pressure, as well as what jimbare suggests? With fuel injection, it is not enough to simply get fuel to the rail, you need at least 32psi of fuel at the rail to get the injectors to atomize the fuel. If you have a clogged filter/bad pump/etc., etc., you can get fuel to the rail but not enough fuel to start or run. You also probably want to check your base ignition timing as well.

Also, you need to tell us what it does when you try to start it. Does it almost catch, but not quite? Does it even seem like it wants to try to run? Does it just sit there and spin the engine over and over?

This is just a shot in the dark, but have you checked the crank position sensor? If it is bad or dirty, the engine will not start. That's where I'd start after all the other things you listed before. I'm not exactly sure where it would be but I'm sure someone here knows where it's at.

I have new ignition everything,Ihave tried to fix the vaccum problems before by letting the truck run to see which ones did anything.Yes it was running "alright" then it ran out of gas it set for about two days put gas in it and it would not crank.I have run down three batteries so bad they could not be charged back up.I'm not sure where the crank position sensor is but i will look tomorrow.the truck has probably has about 160,000 miles on it but the truck is refurbished so you can never tell.the plugs are alright but they are not wet,in fact they are dry as a bone. When i turn it over it seems like it spins normal speeds up for a milisecond then it runs the battery down to far,I am using an 875 cranking amp battery. thanx guys.

check for a little black box that the fuel lines run through on the left frame rail, just after the tank. there is a little filter in there that gets clogged up. the big round cap on the bottom should unscrew with a strap wrench. i just cut mine out and added straight hose. also make sure your sending unit is working properly. there is a prefilter in that at the bottom of the tank that can get clogged.

No. Put the vacuum system back to stock, or you will NEVER get it to run right.

And it sounds like your starter has a dead short in it, which is causing it to severely drain the battery when you go to crank it.

The vacuum routing information should be in your service manual. That said, I think someone posted a link to a picture of the vacuum routing map here a while back.

If it ran until it ran out of gas, you definately clogged the fuel filters and perhaps the filter/sock on the fuel pickup tube in the tank.

And if the engine isn't cranking, it's a starter problem.
