Is there any performance chips available for a 2.9L? If not, is there anything out there performance for this engine besides heads and headers? Hope this engine didn't get forgotten by performance manufacturers.
You should be able to get a diablo chip tuned for it from motorhaven. Even though the 2.9 isn't on the list at that site, it can be chipped and give you 11-14 HP and 17-25 ft-lbs torque.
Thanks. The only thing though is that its for a 2.9 in an 1987 ranger. It doesn't have MAF and the automatic tranny is still mechanical with only the OD gear controlled by the computer. They may have to do a custom reprogram.
yea ken is tha man in these forums. i sent diablo a question about that. i may have to have a custom burn done. maynot even be worth it for the all stock beast.
The odds that there's a PCM read for your truck is slim. In the past 4 years, yours is the first I recall asking about a 2.9L for an 1987 Ranger. Frankly, people just don't tend to tune vehicles that old, especially Rangers. If you can give me the code from the sticker on the computer, I'll let you know if it can be done. Custom burning has nothing to do with it unless you've modified the vehicle.
