Excursion 5.4 with 2x2 ?
Thanks, Chet
but the 4x2 vs 4x4 ONLY helps on acceleration... braking and turning are basically the same... yes, the 4x4 WILL help the front end "pull" around the corner a bit better...
but the most critical part is the stopping part... You control the acceleration and can always back it down... but that stopping part is the hardest part for ANY vehicle..
But really, isn't it more a function of the tires you have than anything else?
AN Ex is close to 8K lbs and SHOULD sink down into any snow to get good grip if the tires are up to it...
Glaze ice is another thing completely though and I would think the heavier vehicle would be better for that in most cases too !
but I just enjoy typing ! Just my $.0000002 !

But yes, tires will be a night and day difference. Car & Driver tested all wheel drive cars with stock tires against 4x2s with aftermarket snow and ice rated tires and the 4x2s had no trouble keeping up with the 4x4s.
So if you found a 4x2 that you like, buy it and put some $$$ into a good set of all season or snow and ice tires. You'll be OK.
