hello all. i have a 2002 super duty and would like some opinions on some after market exhaust systems ? flowmaster ? gibson ? i'm very new at this and would like to hear some pro's and con's on the systems that are available to me and my truck....thank you for your time , mike (mikeywideglide@aol.com)
Yes, we need to know your engine. Certain mufflers sound better on certain engines. Is interior resonance an issue? That will be a big concern with certain manufacturers.
my engine is a 5.4 , inside noise isn't a big concern , unless we're talking about a huge racket. i do realize that a new system will bring with it a certain increase in sound , and a different tone. i'm wondering here what other guys have done, in the after market world , in adding new exhausts. i wanted dual exhausts out the back , but i see only gibson seems to make that kind for my 2002 250 , and even those have spare tire concerns. banks ? flowmaster ? gibson ?
Have you checked out exhaustsoundclips.com yet? I believe they have some 5.4 clips up. I see you mention spare tire concerns.....so you want a dual system then? You might want to take a listen to the clips available through the link in my signature. I have both Gibson and Bassani sound clips up on my 5.8 V8. I think you should check out the link I provided, and see if any of those tickled your fancy.
thank you rich , those sounded nice. according to gibson , there are spare tire concerns , if you go with the dual rear exhaust set-up on a 2002 250. the dual exhaust is my first choice , but i didn't want to buy a set , then find out i have problems with the spare. do u have any info in this area ? as you can see i'm new to this , lol mike
As far as I know, there are no 'off the shelf' catback kits available for your application that leave the spare tire intact. You might want to see if a local exhaust shop is able to route the pipes in a certain way, as to leave the spare in place.
take the spare out and throw it in the bed..you'll be glad you did if you get a flat and you have to crawl under your truck in the mud, gravel, puddles, etc...
thanks to rebel , and rich for the replys....i have also seen some after market removable spare tire holders that i could go with , that mount inside the bed , up near the cab. they can be taken out if you wanna haul anything. but i'm not sire if i wanna go that way or not. looks like a single side exhaust might be the way for me , coming out behind the back tire......thanks again to rebel and rich. guess i'll look for a truck shop in my area to further advance my interst now.... after waiting for the carlise , pa. truckfest of course.....
