decoding axles again

Hi,

I'm trying to figure out the towing cap. on my new truck, and since the truck was up north for a long time, any codes stamped on the axles are almost impossible to locate and/or read.

It's an F250 4x4, GVWR is 8600lbs which I believe makes it a HD truck? The axle code is a 39, which I have not seen mentioned anywhere. I read that my front axle is either a Dana 44 or 60, and the rear end should be a Ford unit, 8.8" maybe? Does anyone know specifically where to look for the codes on the axle, I may be able to get to them with a wire brush....just don't know where exactly to begin looking.

Thanks,

Bryan

I Didn't See The Year Of Truck Listed. Look At The Front Drive Unit. If It Is One Piece It Is Not A Dana 44. The Dana 44 Ifs Is The One That Looks Like Independent Suspension. My Guess Is If It Is A F250hd That The Front Axle Is A Dana 60.

The Rear Is Either A Dana 60 Or A Ford 10.25. Look At The Metal Tags Attached To The Differential Covers-front And Back. Hopefully They Are Still There. Another Way Is To Look At The Vin # And The Data Plate On The Drivers Side Door Column. They Will Tell You What You Have And The Gear Ratio.

Oh, the truck is a 94' model. I thought it was an HD b/c the GVWR is 8600lbs, which lists me as a HD truck on my insurance. I couldn't find any tags on either differential, but the front looks to be independent so I'm guessing it's a Dana 44. The axle code on the door I've been unable to decode anywhere thus far.

Thanks,

Bryan
