In the course of getting my '91 5.0 running, I decided to replace the EGR valve, as it was severely rusted, two of the sensor screws had broken off in it, etc, so I entered my vehicle info into the website and ordered one from Rockauto, which consistantly has the lowest prices ($85 vs $145 at local dealer!). I got the original Ford part, as I like to do with anything that hooks to the computer.
It came in the mail today, and looks the same as the old one, except for the spring inside, which has only about 4 coils on the new one vs 6 coils on the origninal. The numbers are different too.. E7TE-9F483-F4A on the old vs
E7PE-9H473-E4A on the new.
Now of course the down side of ordering over the internet is that I can't just walk down to the counter and hold up my old unit. Should I be worried about the difference? Is there some sort of equivalency chart that is available to see if these units will perform similarly? I was hoping to do the swap over the weekend, but may be in trouble if I have to deal with returns etc.
Sorry for all the rambling, its been a long week... thanks in advance...
I wouldn't worry about it. As long as the sensor fits the same I would run it. I replaced my original and it was different, it had a ring around the top that made the sensor fit the same as it did on the old one and it has worked fine.
