Hello there new member here. Anyway I was curious if there are any baffled oil pans available for the FE truck 352? Ive done some research on the subject and it seems that a baffled oil pan is the way to go unless you want a lot of modifiacations. If there available are they affordable or outrageous.
there are several baffled and larger pan that will fit your motor. The problem, will it fit your truck.
We've basically determined that the aftermarket FE engine oil pans will not fit in an older F Series 2wd truck. The big cross memeber does not allow it to be very deep.
Now, Milodon or Canton may have a stock shape and displacement with some improved baffles...I can't recall.
What some of us have tried is to find one of the larger FT engine oil pans (From the bigger F Series F600/700s), then weld in our on baffles. This way you get a rear sump/pickup and a lot more capacity. Mine takes like 11-12 quarts.
What type of pan is reccomended if you want to romp on it and launch from stoplight to stoplight? I take it the canton 7 quart deep front sump pans are out of the question?
gtex; Whats the pan capacity in quarts if you use the truck ( full sump) pan using a side pan dipstick? I've been running a full sump for years and welded up the side dipstick and used a standard dipstick above the oil filter. Been running with 13 quarts with a 7" long oil filter. Thru Ford truck repair shops for light and heavy trucks there aren't any mechanics still working or alive for specs on the 391 engine. With the front stick and full oil the level is near the rear pan flange. I'm running a 2" wide metal deflector aimed 30 degrees down around the pan inside to prevent "splash up" under hard acceleration and a center baffle, also rear pickup and windage tray. I relocated the sump drain to the rear of the sump down the centerline, this sure makes for a clean oil change, what was Ford thinking when they placed it above the cross member?Later, Carl. .............................o&o>................. ........................................
gtex; with a 7" Fram PH977A or Purlator filter alone they hold 1 quart, that will leave me with 10-11 quarts in the passages and pan for lube. The only trouble i've had was with worn rocker bushings that made the valve covers fill until the pvc pulled oil. Wow it would look like a blown stock car engine on the freeway at times when it pumped up. This was with FFP roller rockers and a Mellings HV pump. I machined new rocker bushings and added .068" restrictors, now my oil pressure hot at idle is 28#, 3,000 at 58#. Alls well with mister FE. This is with 20/50 oil. When oils on sale and the sales 1/2 case or 12 quarts per customer I need more and they have that blank look when I say 13 quarts per oil change. Oils cheap and I run them long, the last 410 went 423,000 miles so that means i've got 180,000 before the 482 CI goes in. Later, Carl. ....o&o>....
