This was posted at Blueovalnews.com by someone who works at Ford's KC plant. I don't know how accurate it is:
According to the Point Analyst for Excursion the final build out is April 30th for the 2005MY. Final order submission will most likely be sometime in Feb/Mar, but I don't have an exact date. As it stands today, 2005 will be the last model year.
LOL, Ford has been claiming "last year" for the Excursion, for almost 3 years now. I think they are just starting rumors like this, to encourage/increase sales. As long as people think its "last year" for the Excursion, they'll be more inclined to buy one now.
They said earlier, that it (the Ex) will stay, until a stretched Expedition will come out and take its place. If thats true, and 2005 is indeed the last year, guess we'll be seeing a stretched Expedition, by 2006.

Will
Ford has never done anything to increase sales of the X.
And who the heck wants a stretched Expy? It would still be just an.... Expy.
A freind of mine is a mechanic with a Ford dealership (I'm buds with the service manager too). They both confirmed that the stretched Expy is on it's way, either 05 or 06, but they had not heard the actual timeline. On a sadder note, the long rumored 4.2l V6 Diesel for the Expy has been SQUASHED. Seems Ford just couldn't get it to run clean enough and produce the proper power ratings. Apparently the engine had been in testing for a while, but a senior instructor from Detroit claimed it was now a non-entity. Too bad. I would have been interested in that.
A stretched Expy? That's offensive. I dont see how that's easier/better than updating the current version. *sigh*, guess I'll have to drive a CC Superduty, and just cut back on seating.
On Edit: Was that the same motor supposedly going in the f150s? Woulda liked to have seen that!
Wellll, maybe a stretched Expedition may not be all bad, if they find a way to fit it on the same superduty chassis the Ex rides on, and give it the same powertrain options.
Maybe they'll take the approach GM did with the Suburban/Yukon XL. Offer the Expedition in a (wimpy!) 1/2 ton version for the brainless urban-commuting soccer-mommies and yuppies out there. For the rest of us that want a real truck, they'd offer a stronger 3/4 ton version of the Expedition, that will have the same chassis/drivetrain that the Ex has now. I can see how that might work...
XXXcursion, I really hope Ford would not do something so stupid. The Ex has GM beat, in the 3/4 ton SUV market. GM does not even offer a diesel in their 3/4 ton Suburban, Ford has that market cornered. If they give up that advantage and make the new Expedition all 1/2 ton, that would be really sad (and stupid).
I don't think you will see an expy be converted to a 3/4 ton chassis--that;s what the X is now. As for stretching the Expy, it would allow Ford to compete with the Ukon XL/Sub class. Seating for all the little kiddies and room for fido & the bags. All I know is that the 5.4 is barely adequate for the truck now. I haven't driven the 3v version, but adding another 700-1000lbs of curb weight isn't going to help anything.

You mean the 4.5L V6 PSD. Ford is using it this year in the LCF trucks. I'm sure if they can get it to meet the emissions standards for the 1/2 ton class it will be offered there too.
I don't think that Ford will get rid of the X without having something comperable (not a stretched Expedition) to replace it. Rumors have been going around for years that it was going to be discontinued and Ford continues to sell them.
GM predicted the death of the X when it came out, they said 90% of their Sub sales we the 1/2 ton unit. Ford wants some of that market so they had to make a change. I would like to see a streached EXP and a 3/4 ton unit on the same chasse if it will tow enough. IRS is another + in my book, it will tow better than a live axel because there is not side to side movement.
As to the V6 PSD, international is going to be running it in a new truck they are comming out with
Ford also is still working with the "VT 275 diesel engine, a 4.5 liter V6 design that immediately sets best-in-class standards for horsepower and torque. This high-performing diesel engine will deliver peak ratings of 200 hp at 3,000 rpm, and 440 lb.-ft. of torque at 1,850 rpm." the motor has met all emmision requirements. Now I do not know if Ford will put it in a truck but if not it will not be because the motor did not meet the requirments.
