I have had my 2004 F150 5.4l v8 scab for about four months, and was looking for an exhaust system or some kind of pipes that are relativeley cheap but add a good rumble to the engine. Nothing that will blow out the neighbors, just something that is nice and clean sounding. Any suggestions? Flowmasters, glass packs, etc...
I would look into the Flowmaster 70 series with 3 inch pipe (or duels, I'm just not a fan of them) An excellent overall system with good rumble. If you change your mind and want to blow out the neighbors - Flowmaster 40 or 50 series. Check out link: http://www.flowmastermufflers.com/cg.../mufflers.html
Cheep???? all realative. A total system will be in the $300 range... Good Luck!
I had a pro 40 series Flomaster on my truck and had them take it off. I could sety off the neighbors car alarm. I went with the Flo-Pro single/in dual out. Total price $250.00 out the door and sounds meaty while accelerating and absolutely no drone while cruising. I highly recommend it.
You really need to look into the V-Force muffler system. I shopped around a good bit before I purchased my exhaust system and I found the V-Force to be the best for the buck. They were any where from 50 - 100 dollars cheaper than Flowmaster (depending on where I went). The V-Force are just as loud as the Flowmaster. If you take a look at some diagrams posted on the internet, you will see that there is absolutely no difference in the two except for the NAME. The V-Force and Flowmaster and absolutely identical inside and out. The V-Force sounds great on acceleration and tapers off around 50 or 55. There is minimal cab noise yet still sounds great outside. A buddy of mine borrowed my truck and I got to hear it as he came to my house and I couldn't believe it was my truck coming.
Some people prefer the name brand. This is only a suggesstion. Installed, mine ran $260. I had him use two or three extra hangers so this ran up the price about $15. A great sound for a reasonable price.
Do any of the companies like Flowmaster or V-Force make "cat-back kits" or anything similar for the 2004 F150? I couldn't find any information on any of their websites.
alright i have a question, the factory is single in single out "cat-back", so how does a single in dual out add any performance if the exhaust is unchanged to the muffler, or is that just for looks/sound.
LSUFX4, The biggest restriction in the factory exhaust system is the muffler. An aftermarket muffler will allow better exhaust flow. Once you have replaced the muffler the single in "Y" pipe becomes the biggest restriction. You can install an dual in "H" pipe to free up the exhaust even more. Next would be the cats (replace with Hi-flow cats) and then the exhaust manifold (replace with Headers).
Unless you have supercharged the engine to force more air in, it may actually hurt performance to completely open up the exhaust.
Personally I installed the single in / dual out Flowmaster Kit and I'd swear the truck is slower. Sounds like I'm going fast but feels like I'm dragging. I feel more torque but less acceleration. Only a dyno would tell for sure. Just feels that way. I only put it on for looks and sound anyway so I'm still happy with it.
Weird. Flowmaster used to have the 04 F150 cat-back kits under the "New Products Updates" link on their front page. They let it drop off but didn't add it to their search by product/make pages. Guess they'll lose some business until they update their website.
The flowmaster part numbers are:
#17393 - 2004 Ford F-150 V8, 2.5'' Tubing, 3'' DOR Exit w/Embossed Tips, Super 40 Series Muffler
#17394 - 2004 Ford F-150 V8, 2.5'' Tubing, 3'' DOS Exit w/Embossed Tips, Super 40 Series Muffler
I bought mine for $399.00 from JEGS last month but just checked and they are now $412.99. I guess the high gas prices increased their cost for shipping from Flowmaster.
Thanks for the info. Does Flowmaster offer the kits with anything but a 40 Series muffler? I would prefer something in the 70 Series I think, since I'm not wanting it to be very much louder than stock.
