I understand that each piece (crank, spacer, flywheel) came separately balanced from the factory. Does this mean I can simply bolt it together and go. Or is it still a good idea to get it balanced as a whole.

what stage should it be in? short block / long block / with valve train?
The shop will need all the pieces to balance it including the pistons and rods, rings pins. In other words the entire rotating assembly all of it apart. Do not need the block for this operation.
