sure what kind of load are you running
big amp/aletric fan/water pump? a 130+++amp G3 can be made to fit
or
i got a NEW 85amp chrome old skool exernal fan bolt in no wireing or grinding from a ebay seller in san deigo can look up his ID if you like i am happy and only cost 10-15 more than the ~70 amp from autozone
all factory alt are the same other than regulator style ( internal or external)
up to 105 amps
you may have to have the pets man look at a differant model
best is to go to a shop that specializes in alt and starters to buy one
/\ya reread the question yet mhg/\
well there are the old external fan type in 5 1/2 and 6 1/2 inch case
the older style generator i know little of these but they are not benificial sooo
i assume there was a G1 alternator if it went to production who knows
the G2 was very problematic from what i have read
the G3 is readily availbe and can be retro-fit into older models ingeneral have seen upto 300 amp models
the G4 is the latest i believe and can not be easily retro-fit
and furthur each alernator had different mount options some mid to late 80s alts will "bolt in" to a 60s car or 70s truck others will not i just look at them
a a G3 with 180 degree offset mount tabs to bolt to mine i ground off apx 3/16(this may vary) off the upper tab(oposite of the pulley side) and reamed the hole slightly to accept the bolt ..ran a 8 guage wire to the starter relay and attached the ammeter lead not that hard or you can get a plug from a junk yard tell them what ya want or new ones are make
alas <<<brett_d>>> i re-ask...how much of a load (what extra eletrical equipment) have you added to the truck??

I bought a 200 amp alternator from an ebay seller by the name of motorcityreman. It cost me $220 but if you want to get crazy with the electrical stuff this is the way to go. They offer lifetime warranties too. If you're interested here's a link to his Ford alternators: http://stores.ebay.com/Motor-City-Re...isplayZ2QQtZkm If you don't see what you're looking for e-mail them and they'll get it put together. Their alternators are internally regulated. Just a word of warning though, if you go this route, be SURE to upgrade your alternator to battery cable to something a little heavier. If you don't it'll melt right off of there.
