Anybody know anything about the Mercury Mariner, other than it's an Escape with more luxury options. The web site is vague, and I am wondering if it will have more appearance options that will appeal to me, and pricing comparisons to the Escape. Gotta do all my research before I lay my money down!
Considering what Mercury has done in the past, and where they appear to be headed, I doubt you'll see any real differences between the Mariner and the Escape. Which is a shame. Mercurys should be nicer, more luxurious, and look more upscale than Fords. This would also make them more expensive, which is the way it should be. Mercury dealers should be competing with Volvo, Audi, Saab, Chrysler, etc... instead of us Ford dealers. The only competition for the Mercury Sable is.......the Ford Taurus. If they don't wake up soon, they'll be joining Eagle, Plymouth and Oldsmobile.
Thanks. I was just hoping for a mix of options. I am not fond of the packages that Mazda has for the Tribute and was hoping for better. I'm not really into luxury stuff, which is why I don't want a Limited package, but to get monochrome color scheme and avoid the gray side cladding thing. I wish there were more options, but too expensive to make, i guess. Looks to much like Jeep IMO! The seats in the Mariner are very cool, I must say.
I have the Mariner. I bought it because the price was lower than Escape. What was standard on Mariner was an option on Escape. Yes it is luxury. I have the black leather with the lt parchment suede insert. The outside is the charcoal beige clearcoat me, which I liked because it carried through to the bottom. Not like Escape where you had to get two tone. 3.0L DOHC V6 with 4-speed automatic trans. The little things like power heated mirrors and front seats, 6 way power driver seat, Mach AM/FM stero w/6-CD in dash, rear sensing system, moon roof, full size spare, trailer towing, side impact canopy, etc. I am happy with it because I got what I wanted in a little SUV. I have a 2004 Little Guy teardrop trailer that I tow and it handles that very good. Don't even know it's there when towing.
I have been looking at the Mariner vs. Escape issue myself. The prices are nearly the same, but the Mariner seems to be a much nicer looking vehicle, IMO. Of course with all the rebates right now, you can get an Eddie Bauer Explorer for the price of the Escape! The gas mileage isn't as good, but it is hard to pass that up.
I've been getting around 20mpg and when I tow my trailer around 19mpg. I am very confortable in the driver seat and passenger but the rear seats I don't know. Have not riden there. I have not had any issues with it as of yet. It's going in for it's 10,000 mile check up and oil change. I do like the bumper to bumper warrienty where all I do is just sign the paper. I am very happy with my Merc.
