My 1980 F-150 is still dieseling after I cut it off. The mysterious high idle was caused by a vacuum leak which I've already repaired. The dieseling continues even though I've adjusted the timing retard and advance. It will diesel on indefinitely until I put it in gear and dump the clutch. Please help me. I even readjusted the air/fuel mixture thinking it might be excess gas causing the dieseling.
he he he I have no way of knowing the rpm because I don't have a tach. It does seem to be higher than 750 though. I'll check that tomorrow by the old tried and true ear. LOL. If it's loping, it's too low come up a bit. he he he. Sounds fast it probably is fast. he he he
Before my friend adjusted the carburetor the truck ran better. At that point it barely idled, the timing was right and the air/fuel was right, but it ran so smooth and accelerated briskly. He adjusted it because the screws holding the top of the carb and bottom of the carb were loose. After taking it off and tightening it, he proceeded to adjust the carb. My friend is a veteran mechanic and he told me it was idling at 500 rpm by ear but with his ears he knows these things. Is 500 good? I'll get a clip on tach from a mechanic around here and set it that low. The sticker says 650 under the hood but it ran so good down that low.
