gas gauge not working

gas gauge not working
First time ford owner and I bought a 1991 explorer xlt, and the gas gauge doesn't work. Someone told me that it might be the fuse, but I am not finding anything about a fuse for it. Are they crazy? has anyone else had this problem?

Do a search in the explorer fourm for "gas float" make sure you select and below it. you will find many past post on this problem. It most likely is the fuel float and it will have to be replaced.

If the gauge always reads full then there is an open circuit, either in the wiring between the sending unit and the gauge or in the sending unit itself. If it always reads empty the wire is shorted to ground. That is assuming that the float itself is not stuck in either the full up or down position, as previously mentioned.
