Lets see... c ... thats me...thats me too... that fits me.... hmmm pass... saddly that is me... yep... thats also me... me... the ford pinto should not be on that list... that would be yours truly. I guess that makes me an engineer. It would also explain why i am attending college to become a ME(Mechanical Engineer for all the non-engineers )
alright what is the exact defintion of a engineer?
Took me a while, but I found it in an old email
> Engineering is the art of modeling materials we do not wholly understand,
> into shapes we cannot precisely analyze, so as to withstand forces we
> cannot properly assess, in such a way that the public has no reason to
> suspect the extent of our ignorance.
>
> A. R. Dykes
What's your point? Engineering is an art of science. It's takes pride and skill of geekyness to be the Brad Pitt of the unknown Mathematical world ... Now where'd I put that pocket protector?
You have to admit that some of those alien chicks on Star Trek were pretty hot.

The Pinto is one of the premier case studies in "engineering ethics" classes.
The question:
Was it ethical to use a vehicle design that met minimum safety requirements even though cheap technology existed that could have been used to make the vehicle MUCH safer for the occupants?
Sub topic:
Value of a human life. As a result of lawsuits from the Pinto, Ford was the first company to calculate what a person's life was worth in dollars.
Dang! I resemble that list. Good thing I know how to laugh at myself, otherwise I'd be insulted.
Reminds me of an expression we all heard when we first started Engineering School: "When I first came to the University (of Waterloo), I couldn't even spell 'Engineer'. Now, I are one."
I even understood all the replies and comments: buss duct supports, HP's using RPN, the Pinto debacle, LOVE the quote from A.R. Dykes, etc.
The Post vs. Pickett took a few seconds to click, but then I never did figure out how to use a slide rule and didn't see the point since it was inferior technology compared to my HP. I do, however appreciate the differential thermal expansion issue. Hard to believe man made it to the moon based on calculations done to (at most) three significant digits by engineers with sweat stinging their eyes using warped slide rules...
My 21 month-old son wears striped bib overalls. I am jealous. My wife won't let me wear them, saying some nonsense about being fashion-challenged. My wife (I waited until I was in my 30's before I married) has grown to understand, and even appreciate the personality and thinking patterns of an Engineer.
I just can't shake it. Just yesterday, I was talking to a co-worker about a power tool system I saw at a home improvement store. It was a gas-engine power head that you could attach a string trimmer head, a tree-trimmer pole saw and some other attachments to. I commented that "this is innovation, and we must reward innovation." I didn't buy it though because it didn't pass the quick, mental cost-benefit analysis (I already have all these things).
Hello. My name is Eric and I have a problem. I'm an Engineer and I need help.
there are to types of engineers, 1. the type that if you ask them what time it is, they will tell you how to build a clock. 2. the type that if you ask them the time, they will tell you how a clock works.
my father and my grandfather were engineers. and i might become one myself, afterall, most of those questions fit me perfectly. espesially "i cant finish the job untill i have the right equipment" i do that all the time.
