Ok I know there are lots of threads on fuel milage, but today was the 1st time I refueled and did some calculations. got almost 14mpg (overhead showed 16.6) in a combination of highway (varied the speed for break in), city , and some slow hilly roads (went to Tortilla flats yesterday)
My question is this about normal for a new engine (750 miles total)?
Also what about filling the tank to the cap will that cause any problems? Overall we were pleased with everything, still trying to get used to the "Beast" as it appears larger than my old F250, and definitley is when compared to my ranger. Finally determined there is no finese to the throttle, its push it hard or so it appears since unlike a gasser it is not as responsive to small throttle applications from a stop.
what was nice fuel is about .15-.20 less per gallon then gas. still have to order the brake controller and then hook up the TT and go someplace jus for the fun of it.
I have 750 Mi and getting about the same. I have filled the tank, reset the overhead and tried a little freeway and it jumped up to 18 MPG pretty fast.I have noticed to properly break in the engine you will be burning excess fuel, but it's necessary.
I have heard that it takes approx. 20,000 Mi before these engines are broken in and mileage increases.

Smart man you have already figured out he Random Number Generator is only a reference………..they should have just installed a calculator up there..

It's not really a good idea to fill to the cap unless you're going on a long trip and are going to burn that fuel immediately. Diesel expands and contracts more than gasoline and it might force diesel to leak out of your tank if it gets hot outside.
Mine got less than 14 to start and got better from there. I don't know what I get now. I quit worrying about it. Too many variables that affect the mileage. No worries on filling the tank to the top of the filler neck unless you are going to drain your fuel/water separator. If you have it full to the top of the neck, it will drain and drain and drain. Have fun with the new truck.
