Im about to do a brake job on the front end of my 99 Explorer Sport (ABS). Can anyone recommend a quality, QUIET brake pad? Good price helps too.
Thanks
I recommend Raybestos GP-Plus. They are semi-metallic. They stop really well, and are very quite. Only problem is the red brake dust that coats your alloy wheels, course that is common trait for most brake pads. You can find Raybestos at Kragen, Chief, Autozone, etc. I bought mine at Kragen with a lifetime warranty.
If you take your truck to a automatic carwash, your front wheels will build up a red dust coating in no time. Something to consider.
Raybestos also makes a ceramic pad that eliminates the red brake dust, but they cost alot more. Would like to hear from someone that tried them.
I used the Raybestos Brute stop. Yeah you stop real quick but I tore through a set of rotors too! It was fun while it lasted. The 300 bucks for rotors was an eye opener.

Are you saying that the "Brute Stop" pads are responsible for tearing up your rotors?
I was concidering getting some of those. Are the pads more abrasive than other pads?
I just did a complete rebuild on my 96 X 2WD. Bought all the parts from Ford after checking with 3 different parts houses. Total cost was $101.00 which included OEM pads all the bearings and seals. There is no noise and no red dust. I checked on ceramics, but everyone I checked with said they would work but are known for eating up rotors. Why buy higher priced parts when the dealer can sell original parts for less. The big automakers have finally gotten a little smarter and have reduced their prices on consumables. The other quotes I received on the same pieces from after market companies where much higher.
