I am having some issues with my 1995 Ford Bronco 5.8.
I have some clunking noises coming from my front drivers side. I replaced the shocks and it didn't stop. Do the springs need to be replaced? I have single front end shocks, not dual. Also, the engine has 170,000 miles and still runs strong. However, from the day I bought it used at 125,000 mile, there has been a ticking noise coming from the engine. Not a knocking or clunking but rather an annoying tick, tick, tick slightly at idle 750 and louder when on the throttle. Any help is much appreciated.
I imagine the tick is an exhaust leak. Check your flanges they have a tendancy to rot out, or it could just be a hole somewhere. The other thing to check is the tube that pumps air into your catalytic converter. Its quite common for them to break off. As for the clunking noises.... perhaps ball joints. Best of Luck!
You need to check all bushings, especially including the radius arm bushings. They are one of the biggest culprits for noise. As for the ticking, it sure sounds like a manifold gasket/flange leak. You should get a length of tubing, and use it as a stethoscope. That way, you can point it in any problematic areas, and hone in on the trouble maker quickly.
I also have the annoying click/tick sound. I have thought maybe it was a fuel injector, but when I put my stethascope on the injectors they all sound normal I guess. One thing about this motor (5.0L), when I put it in in Nov. , we were putting on the exhaust man. and did not use the supplied gasket set. There were no gaskets on the original, and an ex-Ford mechanic said that the gaskets were not needed. Is that true? I want to move to headers so I suppose I will put a gasket in there at that time but I have not been able to get the same answer twice on the ticking sound. Very noticable at idle and lower RPM's. Anyway, I would love to find out what it is so I can get rid of it.
