67-72 will for sure work, and if i am not having a senior moment, 65-66 will also work.
these are the only bolt ins with no modification. 73-79 will work if you can find one with out power steering, you just have to redo the turnsignal wiring a little. they are about 2/3 inches longer, so they will sit a little closer to you also.
Thanks for the info. Here is my problem. Replaced rag joint less than 200 miles ago, not sure it was done correctly, and it pulled thru today. My friend put a new one in but said the lower bearings were shot. He said it would be better to replace column. Will call salvage yards tomorrow. Must replacement be manual? Just figgured one with power steering would be easier to find.
Dirk: Jim is right; a '65 or '66 column will work for you. You may also want to consider a plain column, out of a 4 speed truck, with the floor shifter from years '65 - '72. That column will not have any other moving parts, and is easy to rebuild. Bearings are available from the suppliers who advertise on this site.
One final caveat: IF and only IF you find a '65 - '69 with BENDIX power steering, you can use that steering column also. Be sure it is a Bendix power steering box, though.
By the way, if "Deo Vindice!" means anything to you, I would be most grateful if you could contact me via E-mail.
I too, had a broken 3-on-the-tree linkage in my '72 F-100 Ranger XLT. When I was unable to locate a replacement, I decided to swap in a granny-low 4 speed. This left me with a worn out column, which I replaced with a non-power column from a '78 1 ton. I had to gut and swap in the wiring harness from my old column, and then the original wheel wouldn't work, so I took it to my buddy's machine shop, and turned it on his big lathe until the lower part of the wheel cleared the top of the new column. The only difference in appearance is the slot where the hazard light switch was located on the right side of the newer column (mine is in the dash).
