my explorer recently overheated i pulled over but was unable to locate the leak--when it cooled i checked the hoses they all looked good as far as i could tell--when i refilled the radiater water was coming out from around the area where the tranny and engine join there also apears to be a oily substance in this water any ideas whats wrong with it??? engine still runs good-its the 6 cylinder 2 wdr model-oil seems about half a quart high--also would the water run out when its not running if its head gasket?? also when it first blew it was shooting alot of the water into the passenger side wheel well-and none was visible from the top area
Hmmmm...sounds like maybe a freeze plug to me. Try to get a look at the sides of the block and see if you can see where it's coming from. By now the original freeze plugs are old enough to have rusted through. Especially if the coolant solution has not been changed as a form of preventive maintenance. Let us know what you find!
Water could be coming from your head gasket. The heads flow water thru them to keep the valves cool and the water on the head has to flow somewhere when you shut the truck off. The pressure inside the engine will force the water out thru any hole it finds. If your oil level is going up, I bet water is getting down into the oil pan and mixing with your oil. Check for a white cloud on startup which would signal water in the cylinders. If so, better get those heads off and replace the head gaskets...
