plug boots, wow..

I was helping my buddy change plugs in his 97 f150 the other day. It has factory plugs and wires, we are replacing the plugs with some good motorcraft coppers.

Anyway, I told him we would start with the back plugs and do the toughest ones first.

For the life of me I could not get the plug boots off. We sat there like idiots yanking and twisting and the rear plug boot on passanger side wouldn't pop free.

Then I grabbed a new shoelace and tied it around the boot, but that didn't work either, and we were really yanking it too.

I have never had a problem like this on any vehicle, and i'm really not a weak dude (honest)

Did you guys have to use plug pliars to get them off? Or do you have any tricks for getting them off?

I don't want to damage the wires, because they are still good and we want to reuse them.

thanks.

I had a similar problem with my 4.6l in my Crown Vic PE. Once we finally got the wires off, the plugs went right in. Stupidly I assumed that the wires were OK. Put everything back together and it ran horrible. Just like a engine would run with damaged plug wires. I stupidly did this at our vacation cottage and had to limp the automobile 100 miles to home. The next wave of depression was the cost of the new wires, over $90.00.

It wasnt a good week. Hope you have better luck.

Cordially,

Mike

I used plug wire pliers on mine and by twisting and prying simultaneously it popped right of. It was the only way I was able to get it and I tryed for a long time with other methods.
