I have a 98 explorer that I am having an on going problem with. I have a constant 9 volt draw off my battary even when the truck is off with nothing on. I have traced it I believe to the anti theft system. I pulled the fuse for the system which is also on the same circuit with the fuel pump and the draw goes away which would lead me to believe that one of the two is the suspect.
having eliminated the fuel pump as the problem, my focus goes to the theft system module. About 3 weeks ago, I noticed that the indicator light on the dash for the theft system has been blinking kinda strange. Instead of the usual on off cycle that i was use to when the system was engaged with the doors locked, it was doing a strange pulsing pattern and going bright and dim...then after about 30 seconds it would blink eractly on and off..(this is the best I could describe what I see) I believe the way it was before it was broken like I said was a steady on then off cycle flash..can anyone varify this for me?
If anyone is familar with the system or could give me some advice, it would be greatly appreciated.
I have a 98 with the anit-theft system. When it is first armed by locking the doors, it pulsates (appears to be normal) for maybe 30 sec. then goes back to it's on-off cycle. You may still have a problem with your's, but the light seems to be working correctly. Hope this helps
thanks for the reply..actually I notice that after about 20 seconds, it does stop the bright and dim and then trys to do the normal flash every 2 seconds or so..but the light will blink once, then like a second later, then 4 seconds later and go off very quickly, kind of like there is a short or something. I am at a loss with this thing...maybe its time to bring it in to ford
