when i get into higher rpms in my last gear i start to hear a knock from the inside of the motor.. usually it only happens when i get off the freeway. and if i drive around in 2nd gear. so its starts knocking.. then it will keep knocking when i get back in town driving.. and then after a little while the knock will go away. when i start the truck up in the morning its fine.. drive it in town.. its fine.. but soon as it hits higher rpms for a sustained time.. such as the freeway, it will start knocking and then go away after about 15 mins of in town driving.. i was suggested that it might be my valves by a friend.. i just thought i should ask here.. if you need any more info please ask..
thanks - Kider
engine knock: shift to a higher octane fuel, if it goes away, take a little advance out of it, like 2 degrees, and go back to cheaper gas.
Mechanical: go to a higher vis oil and/or add STP to bump the vis index.
Factor in miles on engine and what the oil pressure doing in your decision making. GL
you wouldn't be describing valve noise as knocking. get a mechanical oil pressure gauge and hook it up to the oil port behind the intake manifold. could be that your oil returns are clogged and not letting the oil back to the pan, more likely your pick-up screen is clogged and not letting the pump get any oil. usually caused by the plastic on the cam sprocket coming apart. knocking isn't good, i'd be finding out what it is before putting too many last miles on it.
