I'll look at ford first, but thanks for the suggestion! What about the "passes" on a transmission? I was looking for a cooler and it wanted to know how many "passes" I had? How do you find this out?
I have a '98 Windstar with the factory tow package. If your '00 is pre-wired for the towing package, there should be two connectors attached to the frame next to the spare on the left side. One connector is for the trailer lights and the other is for a brake circuit. Let me know if you need pix.

They changed the wiring after '99, it's inside and there is a computer hooked up. So I don't have one, and if I did it pobably wouldn't be there. Thanks for the input though!
To buy the harness from ford is $70 and it doesn't void the warranty. It's a little more than i figured, but it's worth it. Thanks for everyone's help! If you get any new info just post it, but I think that with your help I will buy the $90 hitch and $70 harness.
I have a 99 windstar with the 3.3L I just hooked up a hidden hitch Class III to it ($100 delivered) and also an aftermarket wiring harness ($50). The wiring is funky - it is computer controlled and you need to run a fused power line from your battery to the wiring harness to get everything to work properly.
I pulled a 4x8 utility trailer with plank sides loaded with vacation gear about 1200 miles total last week with no problem. The loaded trailer probably went about 900 lbs.
We didn't have any hills to contend with, but the acceleration into traffic was just ok.
