Front Diff Engaging...Have u Had This Problem
'04 SCab FX4 At 3500 km my truck started making a rattling sound like the fan was rubbing on something. It was actually the front diff trying to engage, it would try to hook up, but not quite, you could hear the hubs spooling, if you switched the 4x4 on the diff would engage, then I would turn it off, and it would be fine, for awhile, then start again, I kept this up for a week till I could get it to the dealer. They checked it out and said that since it was Memorial Day in the States they couldn't get any tech support from Ford, and since they hadn't had to work on any04's yet they didn't have a clue, so could I bring it in on another day, which was a drag, cuz I had to rely on them for a ride to work,and since i work till 7:30 I would have to find my way back to the dealership, they sent to work in a cab $40... fortunately one of my co-workers got me close enuff to get my truck So I brought it in 2 days later and was told a vacuum line had come undone and repaired it, apparently on the 04's vacuum is used to disengage the front diff, so if you lose the wrong vacuum line in the middle of nowhere, it defaults to 4x4 mode as opposed to the old style that needs vacuum to engage, no problems now.
