i just got a ford 429 out of a 1970 ltd wagon with 85k original miles on it. the breather cover says ford 429 4v premium gas and the heads are dove-c and the block is a dove-a. can anyone give me some in depth info about this block and how far i can take it as far as making horsepower.. thanks. i know that i could find this in books but you guys seems to like to spread the knowledge that you have ot us that are not knowing.. again, thanks for sharing the know-how
I you do a search in this forum, you will find pages and pages of info on building the 429/460. A little shorter stroke is the only difference between the 429 and 460. Pretty much anything that works on the 460 should work on the 429 too.
You have a 429 "thunderjet" I believe your stock HP number is around 300 and your stock torque number is approaching 400, they are great motors, and an uncommon find, that doesn't equate to rare, but its a great thing none the less.
your CR is about 11:1 though, and depending on altitude where you live and the quality of your premium fuel, you may have pinging issues.
