Changing intake gasket, any tips?
I'm changing the intake/exhaust gasket on my 86 F150 300 I6. I've never done this before, in fact this is my first I6 I've owned. I was poking around under the hood, and I was wandering how to keep both manifolds aligned while putting it back together. I am open to any and all tips or insight you might have.

the intake/exhaust manifolds on my 300-6 came off in one piece and stayed that way...they are generally sealed together and don't seem to come apart very easily....you should have no problem removing them, putting the new gasket in place, and bolting it back up...mine went like a breeze...if i had only had that iron in the fire, i probably could have had the whole thing done in less than an hour, but in my case, i was swapping to a whole different intake/exhaust manifold (same type of manifold, just a new one), and also helping a friend swap trannies in his c***y pick-up, along w/ playing on the 4 wheeler at diff. times...also...you'll want some sort of spray-can bolt/rust loosening compound (WD-40 works good, as do some others) to help loosen the manifold bolts...unless you have a massive oil leak (like i had) that already had the bolts loosened and lubricated...spray the bolts well with the loosening compound and let it set for 10 mins or so, and keep hitting the bolts every 5-10 mins for 1/2 hour or 45 mins or however long it takes for them to loosen up...good luck
