Headers should never hurt your engine. I dont have that era vehicle, but some good brands to look at are Gibson, Bassani, JBA, etc. I have Bassani ceramic coated headers on my 96, and I love them. You can check out some pricing at proficientperformance.com, as well as at www.motorhaven.com . I havent dyno'd my truck (yet....), but the headers, and other exhaust components I have added definately perked it up! Are you only planning headers? Do you have an aftermarket muffler or catback? Have you considered swapping out to some high flow cats? Headers are a good start, but they quickly become bottlenecked once they hit the stock Y pipe.
