Well it happened. The other day I was driving up to the junkyard, and when I got back there was a huge cloud of smoke coming from the engine compartment. Open the hood, and there's a huge plume of oil smoke coming up from the headers. Check the oil and it's a quart low.
So I tighten down the valve covers (which didn't look like they were leaking anyway), and take another drive. Get back, another cloud. Pull into the driveway, and there's this huge oil puddle on the driveway.
Dipstick is fine, it's mostly on the passenger side. I think it may just be the rear main seal. If I have to take off that stupid heavy intake manifold, I think I'll get the Edelbrock Performer RPM manifold and be done with it.
Maybe this is a sign that I need to get that 390 going?
If it were leaking at the back of the intake manifold, you should have vacuum leak symptoms as well.
Why would you have a vacuum leak with the rear intake seal leaking?
Just curious... doesn't make sense, except the PCV will get more air, and that would also happen with a leaking valve cover, front intake seal, etc...
Sounds like the valve cover or rear intake seal - is it getting on the headers near the exhaust ports in the head, or where the tubes go down past the bellhousing?
Well Kurt..now that ya have your Injection dailed in..upgrade to the RPM..and thats one less part to buy for the 390.. Sorry to here about your mishap...
