Windsheild Wipers

I have 1999 Explorer that ocasionally the wipers turn on by themselves,ok is it a ghost in the machine or has anyone had the same problem

I have the same problem on my 99 XLT and the Ford Motor Dealership says it is the wiper motor, but has non in stock for almost 3 years now. It is very annoying and has a mind of it's own. These wipers just come on for a short period whenever they feel like it. I usually just bang inwords on the left wiper control even though it will still do what it wants. Does anyone have the correct answer for this, or is it really the wiper motor.
