Transmission vacuum modulator
Whilst driving it last night, down hill, I noticed lots of smoke coming out of the exhaust. I stopped and checked, the smoke had a strong chemical smell.
I turned around for home and after a short distance the smoke went away.
I've onle driven it twice since on short trips and no further smoke!
From the smell I'm sure it's not oil or water/antifreeze.
I did a pressure check on the radiator which held, I also checked the brake fluid level and the brake vacuum pipe for signs of brake fluid. The engine has been stalling about once a week after quick acceleration .
I'm thinking it might be the transmission vacuum modulator if fitted?
Do you think this could be the problem and if so can it come and go?
How difficult are they to chang and the cost?
Thanks.
Someone on here said it should be a 15 minute job...
Not in my world.
It cast $20 at NAPA and it was a bit of a pain because I lost the pin.
Reaching up around the Cat. Conv. made it more difficult.
If you can manage to hold onto the pin & not lose it then you should be in & out in 30 minutes + without too much difficulty.
Pull the vacuum line off the back of the modulator & see if there is any trans fluid in there. If so, it is leaking and you should replace it.
