Lightbulb 1992 ford explorer

I have just purchased a 1992 Ford Explorer and found that I am having problems keeping it running at low RPM's (it just tries to idle speratically or stall all together). the other problem I am having is the starter. It seems like the starter has just died but now I am unable to even bump start it.
Does anyone have any Ideas on what these issues could be. This is my first ford product that I have bought and I don't understand what could be going on with it.

Thank you for all of your help

BIll

Try cleaning the idle air control valve for the idle problem.
Since it wont even bump start try cleaning the battery cable connections & if it still wont start give the battery a good charge & go from there. Or try jump starting it from another car. If it starts, connect your voltmeter to the battery and you should have approx 14 volts.

Hey Bill
I had the same starting problem with my 92 Explorer. I tapped on the starter and it started, later found the brushes worn. I replaced the starter. Good luck......Fiddler5.0

Just had the same problem on my 92 Exp. Dual fix...corrosion on the positive batt. cable which when cleaned, helped for a couple of weeks, then replacement of the starter was the permanent fix.

Hey, rough idle? I frowned when my wife told me her 94 Explorer was idling rough and wants to cruise at 25 mph with the accelerator not being touched! It also made quite a bit of noise and the engine was twisting like getting bursts of gas every 2 secs.

Dreading big repair bills, I decided to have a look-see in the engine compartment. With the engine running rough, found a vaccum hose disconnected. I connected it and PROBLEM SOLVED!!!! This hose was connected to a "christmas tree" assembly mounted at the rear/top end of the engine with about 6 or so ports feeding different hoses that are small, diameter size of AAA battery.

I just had to try to search the forum & see if anyone had that problem and give 'em an ol' helping hand.

Let me know here if it works out!

You may want to keep an eye on the hose. First gen Xs hadvean automatic transmission vacuum modulator that has a tendency to send trans fluid into the vacuum hose tree when it goes bad. The trans fluid will degrade the vacuum hose and they'll be too loose to stay on.

Mason,

Wow, I think you've seen our explorer!

It does shift hard when shifting anywhere between park, drive, netural and reverse. I literally had to make sure the vehicle was stopped and held the brake firmily as I grip the steering wheel to brace against each hard shift. Does this automatic transmission vacuum modulator responsible for this phenomena? If so, where can I find this thing and how do I determine if this is a bad part or not?

Appreciate you pointing out other related issues!!!
