well when i go up hill i get sum knocking and such. but if ive just say... driven across town and go up some hills it doesnt do it, but if ive been driving it fora while it does. and also when i come down from long periods of high speed ( 55 and above) my oil pressure almost bottoms out. i can bring it back up by putting my foot on the gas. but after high speeds and i start driving slower like 45 ish and i put my foot on the gas the pressure drops till i get up to around 50
sounds like bearings or rings. possibly a clogged oilpump as well. hook up a mechanical gauge so you know exactly what your pressure is. how many miles on your motor?? might be time for rebuild
late
210k...im just gonna say it's prolly time for a rebuild. but the thing runs realy good for as many miles. starts fast in the cold, only turns over 3 times befor it starts.
210 is few miles for that motor. time for a 351w swap. this is what i did last summer and it was the best mod i could have ever done. the power is way better and believe or not i get better gas mileage now.
210k id say its prolly time for a rebuild. but i dont have the money for that..and it runs to good fora rebuild. in the cold it only turns over 3-4 times befor it starts
i get 16hwy and 12 city. i will say its just a matter of time before you are left on the side of the road because your motor is losing oil pressure and that is like cutting your wrists ya know. with out blood you dont live long. plus the 302 is way underpowered.
my motor swap cost me about 1G. i found a used motor at the wrecking yard with low miles complete from the oil pan to upper intake, and then used all the wiring from my 302 on the 351w. its bolts right in. no fabbing is necessary. it took one weekend to pull old motor and one weekend to drop the 351w in. but i understand that money is tight and all. my 302 had same problems yours does now but mine had 160k on it. i just couldnt wait for it to leave me stranded.
so i can use i can use all that same equip for the 351w? realy i thought it there was alot more to it then that, well i think that i just might do that then.
find a 351w from a wrecking yard that is complete. just as if it was sitting in a vehicle. look for one from 88-93. it can come out of a bronco/f150/f250 . What tranny do you have . you should go into your control panel and fill in your signature with info on your bronco like year, engine, tranny and any other mods you may have . this will help down the road. and if you have any questions regarding this swap let me know.
Also the things you can reuse from your current 302 on a 351 are. the Powersteering/ac assembly and also the alternator/smog pump as well if the motor you get doesnt have those things.
210k id say its prolly time for a rebuild. but i dont have the money for that..and it runs to good fora rebuild. in the cold it only turns over 3-4 times befor it starts
Like Kemicalburns said, install a mechanical oil pressure gauge. They're cheap and easy to install so no reason not to have one. My '89 had almost no oil pressure and still ran like a champ. You can either run it till it dies and possibly have less parts that will be still be good enough to use on a "new" engine, or go ahead and install a new (rebuilt) engine and re-use alot of the stuff off the motor you've got now. If the oil pressure is really that low than a rebuild is in your future, maybe 2 weeks, maybe 2 years. low oil pressure is basically a ticking time bomb. It's gonna blow, just a matter of when.
