Ok guys, let me know what you think. I have a 2002 F250 4X4 with a 7.3. I just started the process to order a new 05 with the 6.0(paperwork is coming). This was all before I read some posts on this forum. My concern is that I will have all kinds of problems with the 6.0. I thought that the problems were only for the '03 motors. I realize that any motor can have a problem, but I have had no problems at all with my 7.3 and I do not want to experience all the issues I have been reading about here - bad idle, leaking rear main seals, warped exhaust, fumes in the cab, etc...
Should I be worried and just keep my 7.3 or go ahead and order the '05?
Thanks,
Craig

Reason: grammar
Do not worry go buy an 05. I have a 2003 6.0L and it is problem free, just as most 2003's are. Besides, if you go to the Ford diesel site and read all the problem post for the 7.3L engines you would not have bought it. FMC sells about 250,000 6.0L each year and we have a few dozen complainers. Sounds like FMC quality control is pretty good, not perfect but pretty good.
I have a good service crew at the dealer I use. So what few problems I had were quickly resolved to my satisfaction.
Roy, where did you get the 250,000 number? One of the points of discussion here is that we don't have good numbers. Your assertion is what I have been posting, that we represent just a small number of 6.0 owners and the ones with negative experiences congregate here looking for answers, consolation or just a place to gripe.

Are you implying all 250,000 buyers come to this site but only a few of them are complaining? And were did you get "a few dozen"?
The 04's seem better than the 03's but they still seem to have more failures than they should. Maybe it's because they're under a microscope these days but then there are things like Ford turning of Pilot Injection on all of the 6.0's that really speak to the fact that ford just has not got it under control yet. With the strong rumors going around about a 6.4PSD replacing this one as soon as 07, you have to wonder if ford is just trying to prop this one up long enough to get out from under it, too.
