I am having problems in two areas. Number One: My oil and temp gauges are reading high and they shouldn't. I changed the oil pressure sensor and the thermostat and they still read high. The oil pressure gauge goes up when I first start the truck. When I turn the lights on they read even higher. When I press on the brake they respond like the battery gauge does. Number two: The truck won't start sometime. I changed the starter, battery cable that goes to the starter and battery terminals. I had the battery tested at Pep Boys and they told me it was good. I tested the altenator by jumping it and then disconnecting the positive battery cable and it still ran. I turned the lights on while the positive terminal was disconnected and the truck still ran. Can someone please tell me what is going on. I am about to go crazy and broke at the sametime. I love the truck because it is a good truck and it is mine!
[updated:LAST EDITED ON 02-Oct-02 AT 05:28 AM (EST)]Run a new heavy gauge wire from the battery negative terminal to the frame/body. There is a voltage potential between the engine and the frame that develops when current is drawn. This should also happen when the headligts are turned on. If you have a good voltmeter you will probably see about 1/2 to 1 volt between engine and frame under load. Ground straps corrode over time or the engine was worked on and they forgot to put them back on.
I was thinking about that but, I didn't know if that would work and I didn't know that much in detail like you just told me.I am going to try that right now!
