..........I've just left a stop light and am accelerating in 3rd. gear with the gas pedal about 90% to the floor. At 2500 rpm (in 3rd) there is a loud POP , a black puff of smoke eminates out the exhaust and I've lost about 30 to 35 % of my power. Pull over to the side of the road and the engine sounds completely normal. Idle is fine , no abnormal noise whatsoever. Also, i can't hear the turbo whine due to a high frequency hearing Loss. So , I get back in , take off very slowly and drive the 10 miles to my home in the sticks. Truck is running just fine but it just doesn't have any power.......Diagnosis please......I have an idea but I need some very knowledgeable suggestions here...thanks , skuteman.....
The guys on the 6.0 forum have problems with bad clamps on the inter-cooler hoses and the hose blows off. When it goes it makes a loud pop and there is a loss of power.
may have blown an intercooler hose off. check the exhaust to see if there is any oil coming out of it just to make sure turbo hasnt popped. wouldnt be a bad idea to check the inlet of the turbo as well.
Yea with the black smoke and a pop - it sounds like you lost boost. Truck will run fine (smooth) - but without it you get no power and lots of black smoke when you get on it. Pop the hood and see if you can see any obvious clamps that are loose or even blown off!!!
................Thanks, you saved my day! I was positive that I had blown a turbo. I just raised the Hood and the silver pipe had come completely OUT of the Hose ...Will fix it in the AM. I'm wondering IF the warranty would have fixed IT had it been a Turbo??? This truck is a 99 with 79k miles. The actual warranty period of 5 years ran out back on Jan1st of this year. I guess it would have been up too the dealer..Will check everything in the morning guys . Again , thanks for the help. Oh, truck is not smoking while running but i'll check it out when I can see as it's almost dark here in Texas.
